TO GREEN HOSPITALITY
Electra Metropolis has been certified with LEED, thus becoming the 1st LEED Hotel in Greece. Accordingly, this project has become a showcase of exemplary performance in sustainable design and construction in
the hospitality sector.
The project which included the major renovation and conservation of the existing previous office building in the heart of Athens employed a variety of strategies to reduce energy and water use, create a healthy
indoor environment, rationalize resource demand and
implement innovative strategies.
The compressed project schedule along with the limitations of the existing building stock were a challenge during implementation of
LEED. Thanks to the optimum location of the building easily accessible with mass transportation and in proximity to numerous facilities, the project has a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
Using LEED the hotel reduces negative environmental impacts associated with guest rooms, event space, and general facility use through measures such as energy and water efficiency, waste
reduction and management, sustainable and local purchasing, and use of alternative transportation. It also contributes to human health by providing healthy, comfortable, and productive indoor environments with improved indoor air quality, access to daylight and views, and occupant control of the lighting and thermal environment.
Electra Metropolis is a landmark project and a pioneer in the LEED for Hospitality sector in a country with a very intensive tourism market. With
the demand for green hotels and sustainable operations, the hotel did participate in the global transformation of the hotel industry towards greener approaches on an asset level strengthening its existing value.
